Water Treatment Systems

Water treatment systems are being implemented on a wide scale to make water more acceptable. Nowhere water is available in pure form and therefore it is necessary to treat water so that it becomes acceptable for residential (including drinking), industrial and commercial purposes. Water treatment system is required to remove all kind of contaminants from the water, so that the end user gets water that is fit for any purpose. We are all dependent on water in our day to day life; nearly 70% of the household jobs require water. It is important that the water that we receive should be of good quality – free from all kind of pollutants. Therefore before the water is supplied to houses, it is treated and purified.

Water treatment systems purifies water, this involves separating solid contaminants by the process of filtration. Harmful chemicals present in the water can be removed by disinfection and coagulation. If the water is being treated so that it can be used for drinking purposes then the contaminants that have to be removed include biological pollutants such as bacteria, algae, fungi and other micro organisms, the chemical pollutants like fertilizers, sulphur etc and some metallic pollutants like lead. Such contaminants should be removed before the water reaches the end user as these contaminants are quite harmful

Treated water has no value if it gets polluted by the components that transport water to the end user. Hence some disinfectants are left in water to prevent any kind of contamination at the time when the treated water is being distributed. Treated water that is supplied to the common people should meet all the guidelines that are set by the World Health Organization. Besides, the WHO the treated water must also meet the guidelines that are defined by that particular region.

Grey water that is wash water from the households can be used for irrigation. Water is recycled and treated so that contaminants that are harmful for the plants can be removed and important nutrients are retained. Recycle water is not fit for drinking. It is best to use it for irrigation purpose. This way tons of potable drinking water can be saved daily.
