Install Water Tank

Water Tank Installation: Fundamentals for Self-Installation

Water tank installation may be done by a skilled handyman to save on service fees. However, it is highly recommended to ask help from an experienced and highly qualified plumber to do the job. Water tank installation may prove to be more than technical for the typical do-it-yourselfer. Besides, improper or semi-standard installation may result to other problems requiring repair. In the long run, this would only cost you more as opposed to just having a professional install it for you.

However, if you insist and trust in your do-it-yourself skills, there are some fundamental steps to follow in water tank installation. As mentioned earlier, self-installation of water tanks may save you money. Here is a short list of the fundamentals to keep in mind:

  • When choosing the area for water tank installation, be sure to place it near or directly in line with an existing gutter downpipe. This would ensure proper and sufficient rain water collection.
  • A flat pad or protection must be set to support the water tank. This pad where the tank will sit ideally must be made from concrete but may also be made with the use of compacted gravel or sand.
  • A PVC pipe must be connected from your gutter downpipe into the water tank.
  • You then have to attach a water gauge and tap fitting which in turn is connected to a water or garden hose for rain water utilization.

Water Tank Installation: Other Useful Information

You must be very sure and certain when self-installing a water tank to avoid any inconveniences in the future. To complement the above mentioned fundamental steps, here is a list of some other useful information on how to install water tank :

  • Plastic or polyethylene water tanks must be handled with care. Ideal handling should be lifting the tank and not sliding it on rough or sharp surfaces when moving it into position.
  • The water tank installation site must be smooth and level. In addition, it must be solid and compacted in order to support the tank and its contents. If using a concrete slab, the diameter must be greater than that of the tank’s diameter for full support when the tank is full.
  • A water tank stand may also serve as an alternative. Be sure though to consult an engineer when choosing this option.
  • Excess or overflow water must be piped out of the tank.
  • For water tank installation of slimline type, a level concrete slab is always used.
