Recycled water is ideal for plant growth and also helps is ground water recharge. Nutrients that would have otherwise gone as waste are used for healthy growth of the plants. There are many types of recycling systems that can be classified as: (1) recycling of water without purification and (2) recycling of water with purification. Recycled water without purification is used widely for irrigation purposes. Such water should not be used for drinking purposes.

There are many mechanical and biological systems being used to recycle grey water. These treatments include sand filtration, lava filter system, treatment ponds, living walls, activated sludge system etc but till now there has been no method by which water can be recovered for household purposes. In order to retrieve good quality of water from recycled water, 2-3 water purification methods can be used in combination with each other. Besides irrigation, grey water can also be used for flushing toilets.
