Water Filtration Systems

Water Filtration Systems

Water taken from any source is generally contaminated. Even rainwater that falls freely on the rooftops of your rainwater storage system gets contaminated by the impurities present in the atmosphere and the dirt and debris present on the rooftop. Therefore, water filtration is very important before it can be used for any purpose. Filters are available in wide variety to remove different kind of contaminants from water. Water filters are available to remove clogging, sand, silt, algae, mosquito, leaves etc. Water filtration systems remove physical impurities and suspended particles from the water.

The extent to which water should be filtered and purified depends on the purpose for which the water will be used. If one has to use rainwater for gardening and watering lawns, there is no point filtering the water at all. If the water is to be used for flushing toilets, washing clothes or for cleaning cars then , all kind of physical impurities and contaminants should be removed from the water and if the water has to be used for drinking purposes then one must use a proper filtration process that would remove all kind of harmful contaminants from the water. Water filters can also be installed in the rainwater storage system so that the physical solid contaminants are removed from the water before it enters the rainwater storage tank. A coarse mesh on the rooftop can remove the solid contaminants from the water before it flows down the gutter system towards the rainwater tank.

If you are storing rainwater for drinking purposes then all that you need to do is install a rainwater purification device. These devices are manufactured using advanced techniques. At the time of purchase ensure that the water filter meets the health standards defined by World Health Organization. These rainwater purification systems are easy to install and easy to operate.

Filters are also used to ensure that the rainwater harvesting does not contaminate the ground water. Therefore, filters are installed to remove all impurities and micro organisms and water is made to pass through filters so that it gets purified. The most commonly used filters for this purpose are: Sand gravel filtration systems, charcoal filter, PVC pipe filter and sponge filter.
