Holding Tanks

Holding Tank: An Overview

A holding tank is the name given for a container used for storing sewage in toilet equipped vehicles. Other popular names for a holding tank are waste water holding tank and black water tank. Examples of vehicles equipped with toilets are recreational vehicles (RVs), boats, trains, aircraft, and some trucks and lorries in certain countries like the US and UK. The contents of a holding tank are then emptied into a dump station. The dump station in turn discharges the sewage into a sewage treatment system. A holding tank may also refer to a buried tank which is usually used to store wastes from a household or any other building. In the UK, this king of holding tank is called a cesspit. A holding tank is very important in our plumbing and sewage systems in ensuring environmental cleanliness and health hygiene and safety.

Holding Tank: What are the different types and features to look for?

There are many kinds of holding tank systems available for domestic, industrial, or commercial purposes. Examples of these are holding tank without a self-discharge option, holding tank with optional overboard discharge, and holding tank with multiple discharge options. One good choice for a holding tank is a thick-walled high-density polyethylene tank.
