Australian Water Systems

Australian Water Systems

It is a known fact that Australia is the driest continent on planet earth. People have faced difficult times during the dry spell due to acute shortage of water. It is amazing that Australia has managed to deal with water shortage issues. The Australian water systems have implemented effective strategies to overcome problems related to water shortage. This included rainwater harvesting, water recycling, water purification and treatment. Australian water systems have played a very important role in establishing water management systems to bring relief to all people in rural and urban areas.

Rainwater storage systems have greatly contributed in conservation of water. People all across Australia have shown interest in the concept of rainwater storage for dry spell. Rainwater harvesting has many benefits, it is environmental friendly and economical solution. People across Australia have greatly contributed towards water conservation and at the same time saved a lot of money as the dependency on mains water supply reduced to a great extent. Australia has set an amazing example of water conservation for the entire world. Throughout Australia people have installed rainwater tanks. Rain water tanks are available in all kind of shapes and sizes to meet the requirement of all kind of people. To encourage people to invest in rainwater tanks, rebate schemes were offered throughout the continent. This made it easier for everybody to buy a good quality rainwater tank at low cost.

Rainwater harvesting has been used for irrigation and agriculture on a very wide scale. Besides rainwater storage in tanks and reservoir, a new concept of rainwater garden has also been introduced so that rainwater that actually goes as waste in runoff can be used to recharge ground water level. The concept of rain garden helps in recharging water levels and also improves the fertility of the soil. The sediments that the runoff water gets to the rain garden get trapped in the soil and decompose. This increases the quality of soil.

Australian water systems are also laying emphasis on recycling of grey water and using it for the purpose of irrigation. Recycled grey water has nutrients that are good for plants and using recycled grey water for irrigation will also save a lot of potable drinking water. Recycled grey water is also made to undergo a purification system but the water that is retrieved is only fit for irrigation and not for drinking purposes.
